BMW Sportscar Concept Study

Creativity of some car fans never ceases to amaze me. In the past few years, we have seen many graphic artists or design students taking a proactive step and creating their own version of automobile concepts.

BMW fans are quite known for their creativity as well and some of these concepts have been many times sponsored by BMW itself.

Early last year, the BMW M-Zero Concept created some waves on the web with its unique approach of a BMW sportscar, then we had the students at European Institute of Design(Turin, Italy) working on a BMW sponsored project to create BMW concepts that might appear after 2015.

More recently, BMW Snug,a concept designed by David Raffai, showed us a car that to create a community around it. And these examples could continue. At the same time, we have to acknowledge that some of them were purely futuristic, showing the creativity of the designer rather a potential usability in the future.

Continuing down the same path, Emil Baddal, an Iranian born designer and graduate of Industrial and Transportation Design, came up with an interesting concept study around a future BMW Sportscar or if I were to name it, a Supercar.

Sure, the concept doesn’t appeal to everyone and it is quite controversial, but in the end, I have no other choice but to appreciate his artistic skills and attention to details.

We have classified this latest piece of information as a rumor since we have not received yet official confirmation that indeed the new BMW 5 Series GT will have a base price of 55,200 euro when goes on sale in Germany later this fall.

The production model 5 Series GT will be unveiled this weekend and we expect to receive a full press release with all the details we crave for. What we learned so far is that the 5 Series GT production version will keep the frameless doors seen in the concept format and also the beautiful LED angel eyes.

The price might be surprising for some of you, but we did expect a premium price over the regular 5 Series models. In Germany, the BMW 530d Wagon sells for nearly 6,000 euro less than the 5 Gran Turismo. Despite the fact that the overall size and space of the those two models are somewhat similar, they appeal to a different crowd and fulfill different purposes.

For now, the entry level 5 Series GT will be equipped with the six-cylinder twin-turbo engine and the top model will be using the V8 twin-turbo found in the X6 and 750i.

As always, stay tuned for more information and keep an eye on the blog this coming Sunday.
